Ronaldsway recorded 48 mms, I live up in the northern Manx hills
(Ronaldsway is 25 miles away on the SE coast ), I recorded 94 mm on
Thursday 3rd December.

The back of our house is no more than 10 feet away, and 10 feet above, the
island's biggest river, the Sulby. Thursday was the highest I've seen it
in 25 years of living here. It literally came within a whisker, a couple
of inches, of flooding the house, which has never happened before. Between
13.00 and 17.00 my Davis Vantage Vue showed rainfall of 78mm. I'm not sure
just how accurate my rain gauge is but know it didn't half throw it down.
Never seen rain so heavy go on for so long before and at 64 I'm pretty
old.

Don't, will not, get into the climate change debate here I don't know what
to think. What I can say for sure is that over the last 8 years I've been
keeping records mean temps have risen slightly and rainfall has increased
markedly. I know 8 years isn't much and is certainly not enough to make a
decision on climate change, before somebody points it out.

That is some rain Jim. Most I have ever recorded in one day in 13 years is
71mm but then we are on the dry side of Dartmoor. Postbridge has had 156mm
in one day. I guess you are also quite exposed? I suspect the Manx
climatology is revealing itself to you in all her guises.
