It could be horseflies, they give a very nasty bite.


I remember when I lived in Arctic Sweden, biting insects cane in
distinct seasons through the short summer. First in early summer came
the midges (mygg), then a few weeks later the mosquitoes (knott) and
finally the horseflies. So, I suspect you either have the first midges
or the last horeseflies.
