Gust front has just passed over here with thunder, lightning, rain
intensity 72mm/h for a few minutes and fence-threatening gusts!

In the 2 years of running my VP2 (anemometer at 3m almost surrounded
by houses) the previous high gust was 34 mph, this one just hit 39mph.

Considering this is the night *before* the storm, interesting!

Same thing here, exactly as per title. First stroke at 2347 followed by a very long and loud muffled roar, and another one at about 0003. Rain hurling itself at the window but all fairly brief.

It almost took out my garden fence even though I'd strengthened the
weak points in anticipation, earlier in the day. It's just about
hanging in there so far today!

I will be surprised if I see a gust like that here again for some
considerable time including today (highest so far have been 27 to 29
mph) although I now have a new 2 year highest 10 minute mean of 12 mph
(don't laugh!) as of 12:30pm.

Last night at the time of that 39 mph gust, my highest mean speed was
a mere 11 mph, quite a difference.
