Alan, I guess if you tried rotating the spindle carefully by hand then
you might be feeling some roughness in the action compared to a new one.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed on the roof any more.

My first Davis unit, the Weather Wizard, was in use from 2000-2005, then
the Weather Monitor II from 2005-2013. Both in the calmer climate of
Epping with the mast attached to the apex of the gable end. I was able
to access with by double extension ladder on the garage flat roof.
In the cold windy North there is no convenient garage flat roof so I got
the roofers to install the anemometer when they were here in early 2014.
The mast and fixings are there to an industrial standard. If anything
goes wrong they will have to bring the anemometer down again as my
ladders are too short and I'm not allowed up the ladders if my minders
are around.
The Weather Wizard anemometer suffered from poor connections and had to
be replaced (FOC). The Weather Monitor unit became rather noisy towards
the end ot it's working life and as it was brought down to ground level
one of the cups fell off - quite touching really.

On a different matter we had some light snow early this afternoon but
everyone survived this Arctic blast.
