dreams vs. reality
Well, to try and forecast a season a year away is sheer folly in my opinion.
I'm not saying it shouldn't be attempted, but I am saying that any success
with a forecast at that range can be attributed to luck rather than any
scientific basis.
One day it may be scientifically possible (personally I doubt it) but until
that day, luck will always be a huge part of LRFs of that range

I didn't think Paul Bartlett issued a winter forecast this time?
Willing to
be proved wrong of course...
He issued his official 2005 winter forecast back in February, 2004!:-o
Brian Gaze has even made a massive thread about it!:-o
However, this year he is actually very much undecided to as just what
exactly the coming 2006 winter will bring.;-)
If we are to believe Ian Currie's super long-ranger, though, then the
next winter of 2006 should have a COLD, and even snowy, start. Then
again, so was his February 2005.:-(
