Memories of Wattisham. The Essex Gliding Club spent a number of winters
there in recent years as our own site would become too wet in winter.
Yes, the airfield is slightly elevated above the surrounding area. Of
course being an active military airfield we were under orders to stop
whenever the hardware came out. Never did see Harry in his Apache
though. We had the luxury of an air conditioned, bomb proof hangar in
which to store our aircraft. Huge airfield, huge runway - the place
always seemed to be in the middle of nowhere (at ground level).
