Many Brits have an irreverent indifference to our Royals, but I'm sure you
had already noticed.

The handbook says that in UK, even though the natives spend much of
their time moaning about the weather and Royals, foreigners are not
allowed to criticize them (and I assume this applies to anyone whose
name is not obviously Anglosaxon). These are like family members - one
can complain about the behaviour of one's own children or parents (or
weather or Royals), but any hint of censure from an outsider is
unacceptable, and very bad manners.

BTW Reading this group has indeed added my knowledge about English and
the English. I looked up "curmudgeon" in my dictionary. Thank you for that.
