After resisting for a couple of days the house has now cooled to
winter temperatures. With it being 11.8C outside, dark and much
colder than December I have allowed the radiator to come on in the
living room to get it up to a more comfortable 19C.
....... cue Will ;-)
Inside temperature 16.6C with no heating. Plenty warm enough in a
tee-shirt. 19C would be hot for me, it only gets over 20C with a log
fire on. Outside 15.2C, so quite warm. I really hate going into warm
houses they always feel so stuffy.
Yes, Will, we all know you're weird but I reckon 21C is what is regarded
as a comfortable temperature for normal people. Perhaps you'd be happier
with the conditions as described by Thoreau in his journal on February 7
1855:
"The coldest night for a long, long time. Sheets froze stiff about the
face. . . . People dreaded to go to bed. . . . The latches are white
with frost, and every nail-head in entries, etc., has a white head."
"My pail of water was frozen in the morning so that I could not break
it. . . . Bread, meat, milk, cheese, etc., all frozen."
And in January the following year:
"You lie with your feet or legs curled up, waiting for the morning, the
sheets shining with frost about your mouth. Water left by the stove is
frozen thick, and what you sprinkle in bathing falls on the floor, ice.
The house plants are all frozen, and soon droop and turn black."
Next winter:
"Ink froze; had to break the ice in my pail with a hammer."
Happy days.

I wear the cheese. It does not wear me.
