Just past mid-month June is shaping up as cold and rather wet. As ever
this obscures the detail and we have had some fine days with a long dry
spell to start the month followed by much damper weather with lots of
haar. Easterlies have dominated and it is instructive to see how subtle
variations in direction within this flow bring quite different weather
conditions. I sense that orographic influences are important as just
here we are on the northern edge of the line of hills which extend
inland NE-SW from the east coast just south of Dunbar. The prodigious
depths of level snow recorded around here (up to 2 feet) in late 2010
are beginning to make sense. Now if this recent weather had been in
winter....
