Have a look at my post "from the ashes..."
If you or anyone else wants to join I promise that I'll moderate it, apply
the rules and add content that I publish in my own blog (well the ones about
weather and climate). If I don't get a dozen members in the first month then
I know it's been a big mistake which I'm sure it is.
This is a bit (a tiny bit) like the film Field of Dreams - build it and they
will come - realistically after the response from the group so far (which I
fully expected) I don't think a new group like "weather and climate" would
ever take off. The only strength is its simplicity and the resolve of its
membership to make it work. It's certainly got the first one!

Good luck Bruce. Have to say that Dawlish tried to set up a forum a few
years ago "Totally weather and Climate" (or something like that) and it
failed miserably.
I still do not see the need for it as there are already established fora out
there with teams of moderators UKWW, TWO, NetWeather etc etc. Also a word of
advice, moderating will be a full-time commitment 24/7, be very very sure
before you embark on this. You could of course set up a group where posts
are only released after moderation (like UKMO) but then it doesn't "move".

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't realised that Dawlish had tried it, what a strange forum that would be? Global warming deniers barred! And that's got me thinking how do I deal with that kind of topic!
I am sat at my PC most days programming and ejecting the occasional blog, but 24/7 I can't do and that might be where the whole venture flounders. Weather is 24/7 but the poor old moderator has to shopping at Tesco's this morning.
Perhaps I can 'trust' people and let them by without moderating? Or maybe give them a couple of yellow cards before sending them off?
I'm off to see if I can find an appropriate book on Amazon "How to run and moderate a web forum".
Bruce.
