The intensity of the rain has caused some sewer overflows,
including at Gwithian, where SW Water refuse to except the
regular problems.

Did you notice any alert from the Met Office for any of you
thunderstorms. I didn't seen any issued myself apart from one for
the North of England, and yours seemed to produce much more
rainfall.

No, in fact there was no prior indication of thunder for any of the 3
storms on the Penzance 5 day forecast page either. I posted this in
an earlier thread cocerning the early evening storm, which gave the
largest rainfall in Penzance.

"The current storm I've been tracking since 16:00, but obviously not
by the MetO who show the current rainfall risk (at 19:00 & 20:00) as
10%. Perhaps they left a nought off, I mean its' a pretty big storm.
The 1st thunder was about 18:00, and over the last 30 minutes (19:00
onwards) it's been virtually continuous. "

Locally, there have been some very high totals, and a number of the
sewage storm overflows have overtopped. I was going swimming off
Penzance today, but there's of lot of diffuse pollution from the
runoff.

An area from Redruth to Truro got a lot of rain in the afternoon
storm, some place flooded twice, once in the afternoon storm, and
again last night.

So 3 major storms in 15 hours, no warning, at the time each one was
occuring, no forecast of thunder. This morning at 03:30 the thunder
was continuous & almost overhead, yet when I checked, still no
thunder forecast. A complete fiasco.

All very dramatic exciting though


Also, on Breakfast this morning, yesterday's weather was summed up as
being hot and dry in the south with floods and thunderstorms in the
north. As an afterthought, there was a mention of some rain in the SW.

I wonder whether that weird description stems from Carol being in
London, hence the 'hot in the south' description, and the rest of the
team being in Salford, hence 'floods in the north' getting a mention.

It's always tempting to blame this sort of thing on 'presenters'
replacing 'forecasters' but it was always so. Most of my life I've
experienced occasions where I've thought, 'if they can't get the actual
weather right, what's the chance of them getting the forecast right?'
