All I want for Christmas is for someone to turn the weather machine back on. It's just been boring recently - no jetstream to move things along, but too much maritime influence to make it anything other than a gloomfest. I don't mind a good ol' Christmas Storm, TBH.

I think the very stagnant nature of the weather in itself interesting,
it makes me wonder what sort of things can happen to break it down. Is
it anything to do with the unusually slow recovery of Arctic sea ice and
anomalously high temperatures up there in autumn, or that we are
approacing a solar minimum.

BBC yesterday evening put it down to very cold air over the USA and much warmer air to the South creating a strong jet which will kick in for us later this week.
