Coltishall have been reporting rain nearly all the time we've had snow
here. I was beginning to wonder what was happening. But we have just had
a moderate rain shower here now - although it has subsequently become
mixed with snow again.
This airstream isn't really cold enough to sustain snow to low levels
during the day. It needs to be a couple of degrees colder.
I think we forget that most wintry episodes in this country are a wet
gloopy mix of rain, sleet, hail and snow at sea level; we just best
remember those few times when it has been cold enough for the "wrong
kind of snow"; ie the dry fluffy stuff.
