Default BBC vs METO Five day forecasts

The BBC forecasts five days by city (eg
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3778)

show poor agreement with the METO ones (eg
http://www.meto.gov.uk/lib/includes/.../teesside.html)

Generally I believe the more optimistic one G.

Why the difference? Is the BBC computerised and the METO modified by a
knowledgeable human?

Merely different models?

Weather channel is different again and currently seems to agree more with
the Met. Office.
