Yes. But he was argumentative (not a bad thing). He and I had to agree to
differ and not speak to each other after he called me "an extreme objectivist"
back in 1996 in an argument over what constituted "cold" or "warm" conditions.
I still laugh at that as I tend to be quite loose generally. He was
considered a little "prickly" too sometimes in his dealings with the MetO but
actually engendered a great deal of respect there as well. But his writings and
work speak volumes and will be an inspiration I'm sure for young amateurs
coming through now.
