I admit to being an occasional lurker, and a bit of a fan of
Will's posts especially given the coming week. Shame that the
conduct of some have lead him to leave.

Not so.
There was just one idiot who accused Will of lying about his
observations and instead of simply ignoring/killfiling him he
rose to the bait and allowed himself to be trolled.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
------ It is a great shame, especially with these potentially snowy
set ups. As Col alluded to though it has been a bit of a self
destruct. There was the tedious bickering with Dawlish and an
apparent change of attitude in recent years. I was one of the
earliest members of the Group along with Will and considered him
an internet friend. The Group was really ruined by "Jumper" but
what did it for me, having never instigated a political thread,
was when I responded to a racist comment in one of his( Jumper's)
threads (I am never prepared to let racism go unchallenged) Will
decided to killfile me for some reason! I decided like several
others to contribute more in a new Weather forum afterwards as did
several others.

Hasn't just about everybody been in Will's killfile at some point? I
ended up in there after an argument over Brexit just after the
referendum. AS for Egginton, well I know how you feel that racism
should always be challenged but these days I try to resist the
temptation to do it on here. If he needs slapping down then I do it
on the political newsgroups where at least it is on-topic, rather
than here.He was once a well-respected contributor but a few years
ago he suddenly went off the rails, I wonder what happened there, a
sad case.

You know I was thinking that 10 or so years ago this group would be a
frenzy of excitement regarding the current cold/snow. Now, barely a
mention of it. Many posts seem to be routine weather reports. Nothing
wrong with that of course but a group needs more than this if it is
to maintain interest. I am finding I am spending much more time on
TWO these days.

I think those who populate usw these days are to be congratulated that
they have not joined in the hype that has been prevalent elsewhere. I
think the majority on here are very capable of digesting the content of
the various models and making a fair assessment of the probabilities.
The 'wish-casting' that's so prevalent today is best left to other
places, along with the toys and prams! IMHO it's best to enjoy whatever
the weather gods throw at you and document it accurately.
