A big swell, strong wind, and for the 1st time this winter (well it certainly feels like winter still) the sea's coming straight into Penzance.
I was quite surprised just how much water was coming over the prom, not just bucketloads of spray, but the road is completely awash, and it's pouring over the walls into the Jubilee Pool. Just as well the tides are small and the small period means it's not particularly powerful. Very spectacular though, far worse here than in the easterly that affected the east coast of the Lizard & Dawlish during the beast from the east. (Apparently a sequel on the way). I will be very surprised if there hasn't been some flooding of properties.
Meanwhile, on the north coast surfing beaches, with the wind offshore, some good, clean surfing conditions, for the very hardy.

Hi Trevor,
Good to see you're still glancing at USW! Also good to see the sunshine this morning.
Penzance is generally OK in an easterly, unless it's combined with a big swell from the south, thanks to the Lizard. The east side of the Lizard & Dawlish may take a battering, it really depends if the wind is ENE (OK) or ESE (not OK!). The line at Dawlish was damaged on 1st March.
https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon...s-over-1289686 Also the places exposed to the east had huge amounts of sand removed 28/2 & 01/3, so it makes them rather more vulnerable.
I'm not sure how often you glance at USW these days, but you might be interested in
