Sunny and hot until late afternoon: scattered convective cloud from mid-afternoon. Light and variable wind except during the storm.
Thunder first heard at 16.15 local time from a Cb to the SE, and further distant thunder from time to time as it gradually became more cloudy.
Gusty wind from 17.00 and heavy rain started abruptly at 17.10. Heavy, at times torrential, rain until 17.40, with continual rumbling thunder. Several sharp flashes of lightning after 17.30, with loud and close thunder.
Brief pause before further thunder and lightning and heavy rain from 17.55 to 18.10. Rain then stopped and the cloud started to break as the storm moved away to the north. Broken cloud and some weak sunshine in the evening.
At Brussels Airport, the temperature fell from 34.7°C at 16.00 local time to 20.7°C at 17.00. Gusts up to 49 knots were reported in the storm.
