Noticed a picture on your website of the 'Gry' in Penzance
harbour, caught my eye because I used to work for the company.

Apart from that easterly breeze, which should hopefully decrease
slowly tomorrow, another good day.

It's surprising how many people who stay in St Ives never venture
along the north coast to Zennor & Pendeen, a totally different
world.

Cape Cornwall & Sennen Cove today (visited Levant Monday). Well
windy up by the chimney!

Bet it was. Fresh / Strong SE winds are often strongest (in Cornwall)
near the north (offshore) coast, all rather surprising & certainly
against the forecasts.

Atmospheric waves in stable air are often the cause of this phenomenon
e.g. the very strong winds that Ken often experiences in Copley in
westerlies. In Largs, Ayrshire, where I spent my boyhood, the strongest
winds are easterlies, even though the hills to the east rise steeply to
1000 ft and more. I think Crete is also very prone to this with the
leeward coast getting stronger winds than the windward coast.

Thanks Norman, it's certainly in stable conditions it's most noticeable.

Frontal cloud just thick enough to stop the recording of sunshine so far today, though the sun's disc is visible. It's a good while since we've had a sunless day
