Default UK weather extremes, Saturday 21st September

This is the 'Colin replacement weather service'. As I sometimes supply Colin with the data for the more esoteric places in his lists here and in the weather and climate forum, I thought I ought to assemble a shortened version of his lists today - especially as the temperature distribution was influenced by the wind direction (and speed in the west). There are some unlikely 'pairings' of sites here.

Lowest mins 18-06h (21-09h figures were no lower) Altnaharra 4.5C East Malling and Aviemore 4.4C Aboyne 4.2C South Newington (Oxon.), Tain Range and Balmoral 2.9C Braemar 0.5C

Highest mins Jersey 16.0C Achnagart (Glen Shiel) 16.1C St Mary's 16.2C St Catherine's Point 16.3C Guernsey 16.6C Isle of Portland 16.7C Swanage 17.5C

Lowest maxima Craibstone, Aberdeen 15.6C Wick 15.5C Kirkwall 15.4C Baltasound 14.8C Lerwick 13.7C Fair Isle 13.5C

Highest maxima Teddington, London 25.7C Benson 25.9C Mona Airfield (Anglesey) 26.1C Ross-on-Wye and Wellesbourne (Warks.) 26.2C Kew Gardens and Almondsbury (Bristol) 26.3C Heathrow, Pershore and Wokingham 26.4C Valley (Anglesey) 27.4C

Highest rainfall 18-18h Culdrose, Camborne and Thomastown (Co. Fermanagh) 1mm Milford Haven 3mm Castlederg (Co. Tyrone) and Derrylin (Co. Fermanagh) 4mm

The Wokingham figure is courtesy of Bernard Burton's entry on this site which I assumed was not exceeded.

So, quite an interesting outbreak of warmth in western areas subject to an anticyclonic foehn wind - or simply last night warmth from onshore winds off the warm sea (Swanage). While Colin is away I'll try to assemble this list when I can but it will be tricky next week.
