Area of heavy rain now moving ENE across Lower Thames valley into the London
area now. Unexpected thunder and lightning close to heaviest rain - just
west of Weybridge, to my west. It may clear through reasonably quickly but
sufficient I would have thought to flood a few underpasses in urban areas.
Just as I write this it appears to easing off a bit as it crosses London -
typical!

We had lightning in Penzance around 17:00 yesterday which wasn't picked up. It was actually well to the ESE, probably near the end of the LIzard, Lizard, about 30 minutes after some really torrential rain/hail.
It seems a bit hit & miss what's picked up during these 2 or 3 flash downpours, often set off by that lovely warm sea west Cornwall is surrounded by.
Yesterday morning saw a pleasant lull in the weather, after so much wind.
This photo really was taken yesterday (11:30ish)
