2020 was the 2nd warmest year in the UAH 42 year record
Crikey! Have we been keeping temperature records for all of 42
years? Wow!
It's the UAH satellite record. You know. Those whirly things that fly
around up there.
So, it might not be the 2nd warmest year at all!
It's the second warmest in a 42-year record, as Paul clearly stated at
the start. Why do you have a problem with that? Yes, if the record was
longer, it's possible that more warmer years might be found.

This sort of measure of "global" temperature, the sum of sea-ice extent
at both poles, opposite seasons, on every day

may be continuing its rapid decline of the end of 2020 trace.
Just emerging on the extrreme left of the plot, steeper than any other
recent change of year periods.
