Default Thunderstorms in Brussels this afternoon and evening: BrusselsAirport 53 mm rain !

Brussels on Friday 4th June 2021

Sunny and warm morning, with just some high cloud. Rapid development of convective cloud in the early afternoon, and the sky was dark and threatening to the SW by 14.45 local time, with rumbles of subdued thunder and a gusty breeze.

Heavy rain started at 15.00, accompanied by 3 x lightning/thunder, but the rain eased off after a few minutes, and it was dry by 15.25.

This storm affected the centre, south and west of Brussels more than my location in the SE: 21 mm rain at Uccle in the hour to 16.00 local time. Flooding in the city centre and various places in the western suburbs.

Bright for a couple of hours with some sunshine, but it clouded over again from the south after 18.00. Continuous very heavy rain from 18.30, which eased off to moderate by about 19.00, and more or less stopped by 20.00. Thunder now and again from 18.45 and 3 x thunder/lightning between 19.00 (close by) and 19.50. Cloudy through the rest of the evening.

This second storm seems to have been heavier on the E and NE side of the city, and much of the 53 mm rainfall at the Airport will have fallen during this one.

Warm in the morning sunshine, but the temperature fell sharply in the rain.
Light NE to E wind in the morning; mostly light and variable later, but fresher and gusty around the afternoon storm.

Brussels Uccle 25.1°C – overnight minimum 15.4°C – 29.3 mm rain
Brussels Airport 25.0°C – overnight minimum 14.5°C – 53 mm rain
