Charts analysed are for T+96 hours - 12Z Friday 17th October 2003
unless stated.

UKMetO:
SLP: http://www.wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rukm961.html
High pressure (1040mb) lies close to Greenland, and ridges
southeastwards, with a secondary centre (1035mb) lying in the North
Sea. Low pressure (1005mb) lies well to the west of the UK in the
Atlantic, with another low (995mb) lying to the northeast of
Scandinavia. Winds across the UK are light to moderate
south/southeasterlies - lightest in the north. Many parts will be
mostly fine and dry, but with variable amounts of cloud. Temperatures
will be close to normal in many parts, with cold nights where the
winds fall light. Beyond this there is very little change with most
parts staying dry and temperatures close to normal although there may
be some rain towards the southwest later as low pressure moves closer,
and an Atlantic High is building by T+144.

(1000mb) centred to the northeast of Scandinavia. Winds across the UK
are mostly light to moderate south/southeasterlies - mainly light in
the north and east. Many parts will be mainly dry and bright, with

(1000mb) lying over Western Russia. Winds across the UK are mostly
light to moderate southeasterlies - lightest in the northeast. Many

further to the north.

850hPa Temperatu http://www.wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rngp962.html
High pressure (1050mb) lies over Greenland and ridges strongly
southeastwards into Europe. Low pressure (1005mb) lies well to the
west of the UK in the Atlantic, with another low (1000mb) to the
northeast of Scandinavia. Winds across the UK are light to moderate
east/southeasterlies - lightest in the north. Many parts will be
mostly fine and dry, with variable amounts of cloud. 850hPa
temperatures range from +5C in most areas, but nearer +1C in the far
east. Temperatures will be close to normal in many parts. As we head
through towards next weekend things look set to cool down as a colder
north/northeasterly flow sets in. Meanwhile, the south may see some
rain as low pressure moves closer.

JMA:
SLP: http://www.wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rjma961.html
850hPa Temperatures: http://www.wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rjma962.html
High pressure (1045mb) lies over Greenland and ridges strongly
southeast into Europe. Low pressure (1010mb) lies to the west of the
country in the Atlantic, with another low (1000mb) to the northeast of
Scandinavia. Winds across the UK are mostly light to moderate
southeasterlies. Many parts will be mainly dry and fine, but with
variable amounts of cloud. 850hPa temperatures are close to +7C
everywhere. Temperatures will be close to normal. Beyond this a cooler
northeasterly flow sets in, with an Atlantic block also developing, so
many areas staying dry, but turning colder.

Canadian – T+72 hours for THURSDAY:
All charts: http://weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/data/m...ast/478_50.gif
High pressure (1039mb) lies to the northeast of the UK over Norway.
Low pressure (992mb) lies well to the west of the country in the
Atlantic. The UK lies under moderate winds, mostly from a
south/southeasterly direction. Most areas will be mostly dry and fine,
but with cloudy spells at times. Daytime temperatures will be close to
normal in most areas.

Summary:
A mostly settled outlook again tonight with high pressure continuing
to dominate the UK's weather. Over the weekend it looks like low
pressure may well pass to the south of the UK, which may bring some
rain to the south, whilst colder northeasterly winds may set in from
the north.
