Over the weekend I was driving across country. First opportunity to see
for my
own eyes just how low reservoirs are adjacent the roads between Sheffield
&
Manchester. Indeed, some are virtually empty with vast tracts of
reservoir bed
exposed. It really sank home just how dry a year 2003 has been. Next
Spring/Summer could be interesting when water rationing is brought in,
methinks!
Glad I left Leeds last winter.... ;-)
mind you, correct me if I am wrong in this, but hasn't Leeds always been
poorly provided with reserves? A friend of mine, now in his early 60s,
remembers as a boy in Leeds, there were always water shortages and threats
of hosepipe bans
I lived there from (about) 1973 to this January, and remember two water
shortages - one back in the 70s, and one about 5 years ago. Each time
coincided with a *very* dry spell of water. I can't of course cast any
light on your friends boy-hood experiences - I'm too young and was
living in a different bit of the country!
