The met office website is showing minimum temperatures of -7 and -9

for
Penrith at the weekend.

http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/europ...s/penrith.html

I don't see any proof of this from other charts yet. Does anyone

know of a
source to back this up.

I'd take that page with a large dose of salt:-) It looks like the

usual
computer generated rubbish many of us have seen over the months. It

may go
below 0C, but not that far.

I've just checked the BBC site and it comes up with -1 and -2 for

those two
days, more realistic figures IMHO. Yet, the source for those data are
surely the same - UKMO?

I agree with Norman too about other machine generated "products".

From
talking to others, who look at such forecasts, I am often asked why

there
are such big discrepancies and in all honesty I cannot give a sensible
answer. It is even difficult to say which is the most reliable

source.
One would hope the MO site would be, but.....

.... we were always pointing out these problems - 'please write them down
and we'll look at them' etc. Not much seems to have changed. I simply
don't use these sites - and not just the Met O ones either - many of
these pretty-pretty forecast sites are not particularly good guidance.
