I always tought the saying was 'Rain from the east 12 hours at least',
of cause the saying is misleading, as it tends to indicate ones
position being on the northern side of a depression. In this case we
have a stationary wiggling front.
As far as rainfall, I have recorded 21.8mm since 18:00 last night,
which gives me 32.2mm in 4 days. Oh well, bang goes any driest year
records :-(
Been watching my lad play football this afternoon over the park, been
a long time since I last stood in conditions like that, the pitch got
more and more waterlogged as the match went on. However the Score was:
Hamlet Court (My lads team) 9 - 4 Grovewood, and yes he scored the
first goal :-)

I have just taken a look at Metcheck. That is the site run by Andrew Bond.
This is good as it is updated very regularly. I thought it was very
interesting to note Andrew Bond says that the number of disturbances
running along the front is now in the highly unusual character.
To all those in the rain belt what sort of rainfall totals are you on?
Someone in the Gatwick area has apparently had 68 mm. That is well over
2 inches in the "old money".
I noticed that this front appeared from an easterly quarter and that
gives some credence to an old saying. "Rain from the east 2 days at least".
