Can someone look at these pictures and tell me how this formed? The
person who posted them lives in Crowley, Louisana. This is a quote
from his post:

"this is just ice but it looks like flowers. it was taken in north
louisiana. i think it is kind of rare to see this. i think it is from
moist air coming out of the ground."

The pictures are posted in imageshack, rather than downloading them
all and posting them here I'm just posting the URL's. Thanx for any
info!

One year we had a long cold spell during a quiet autumn.
The University lake froze while there were leaves still on the trees,
the leaves dropped onto the ice, then frost flowers the size of teacups
slowly formed on the leaves. All this took weeks.

The water for them couldn't have come through the lake ice by capillary
action: presumably it was from whatever had evaporated locally during
the days, refreezing at night.
