Blue sky and hot (for Calgary) until this but it's only for today. And it's
still hot. Of course the weekend temps are forecast to drop by 5-10C for
the holiday.

According to the news, outflow winds from large thunderstorms passing to the
west of the city today knocked down large trees mostly in the south. The
winds were strong enough to make me take videos of the trees around my place
and the road had a lot of small branches on it from them. Gusts in places
exceeded 80 kmh. Played havoc with the LPGA Cdn Open nearby in the
afternoon too. Poor Michelle Wie. 8-(

You folks had Trees knocked down by winds under 50 mph? We get Gusts up
to 100 kph (60 mph) every year without Trees falling down.

You folks had Trees knocked down by winds under 50 mph? We get Gusts
up
to 100 kph (60 mph) every year without Trees falling down.

Over 50 mph. Well we don't get this sort of thing very often-maybe our trees
aren't used to it. And they have a lot of wind resistance. The wind was
strong enough that I took a few videos-it was that unusual. Top gust near
me was 87 kmh (tv news)-higher elsewhere in the city. Only 1/2"-3/4"
branches on the ground by me. Too bad it didn't take the tree next to my
driveway-it weeps sap all over my car and blocks my view of the western sky
with my telescope.

My guess is like you said your Trees aren't used to those winds. Any
Trees around here that can't stand up to 50 mph winds, Aren't Standing! ;-)

I have a Sky Watcher Equinox 80 and an 8" f6 Newt I converted from a Dob to
go on my mount (SW HEQ5 Pro)-I'm trying to learn to take pictures. All I've
done that worked is tripod stuff (aurora, Iridium, lunar eclipses, that sort
of thing). Used the dob with my old 1.5 mp camera on the moon of course. I
used to adjust the exposure by shining a flashlight down the tube and
holding the release.

Nice selection. Although I still think about taking Pictures through my
Scopes, except for a couple of handheld Eyepiece projection shots of the
Moon (now long gone) I haven't really tried much.
