....of 2011, the last year of first decade in the 21st Century.
High Cirrus with barely a breeze to rustle the last leaves on the Mesquites, the Sycamore tree or the needles on the Pines. And the Chiricahua Mountains across the valley have had Snow on them for ~6 weeks now. We finished the year with over 13" of rain which foretells of a really good chance for loads of wildflowers come Spring. A Healthy and Happy New Year to All. Crazy Ed |

And all good wishes for you and your family. I wonder, we Dutch folks (present company not included) are buying loads of heavy fireworks and in 1 hour it's all gone, leaving a lot of smoke, smell and scared pets. In a little town like Balk it's a madhouse already around 0.00, imagine the big cities overhere... In neighbouring countries they think we're quite crazy (and we are!). They watch big public fireworks and keep their money in their pockets. What about you overthere in Arizona? |

Over here July 4th (our Independence Day) is our primary fireworks day and although the "Fun Fireworks" like Sky Rockets and Firecrackers are against the law in Arizona there's a Fireworks stand in New Mexico ~ an hour from here that makes Multi Millons in Annual Sales and I can assure you not many of them are from their fellow New Mexico residents ;-). But even at that most of the Fireworks are public displays. Pretty dull huh? Crazy Ed |

Hospitals here were very busy this weekend with lost fingers, eyewounds, earproblems, etc. Some young people try to fabricate complete bombs from fireworks and other explosives, just for the fun and to provoke the neighbourhood and local authorities (police etc.) and to damage all kind of things. They often end up in hospital with very severe injuries when their creation explodes too soon. Around newyear you can buy fireworks on almost every corner here, especially in the cities. It's a madhouse... And the mess the morning after, yuck! I'm getting old... |

While "personal" fireworks are banned within the city, there are still quite a few flashes and booms in the neighborhood. And usually at least one residence in the region will burn due to some fool living down to the reputation... As Ed notes, July 4th is even louder - and in Seattle, just as rainy - as New Years.
