View from kitchen the other day during violent rain and sleet storm. It's
dry today but we've got 60-80 MPH wind gusts. |

I grew up in Tornado Alley and even after 30+ years in LA I'm still amazed at how a 0.1" rainstorm will bring out "STORM WATCH!!" media coverage, with all of the local weathercasters acting like we were on Arrakis and this "storm" harkened the arrival of the Kwisatz Haderach! BTW, I got home tonight to find that the winds here in the Valley brought down a big chunk of a big white birch in my front yard, missing the house & windows fortunately. MomDude |

Much of SoCal is hillside which is so unstable it might move with little more than .1'' of rain A good read on the subject is in "Controlling Nature" by John McPhee I witnessed some of the instability during the 1983 El Ni–o in Big Sur and have paid more attention to weather since then. -- Monterey, California USA USDA Zone 9 Sunset Zone 17 |

Huh, a Dune Fan. Given many of the Valley's streets are former Wash's the News has been the same since they first started laying Asphalt for Streets there. It's all a matter of Zip Code. Give SoCal .5" of Rain in a Day and it's the Second Coming. But put a 5.0 Earthquake where you grew up and Lots of Folks'll find God for the day also! BTW, I got home tonight to find that the winds here in the Valley brought down a big chunk of a big white birch in my front yard, missing the house & windows fortunately. Glad to hear all's well at Casa MomDude. Hopefully you don't have Asphalt Shingles that were spread all over the neighborhood. Crazy Ed |
