There's a fallen tree across the cycleway - and people have had to
actually walk round it!!!

Did it actually fall over from that dusting of snow? 8-)
jim in the Great White North (Calgary if you forgot) with lots of snow but
currently (2:30 AM) +3C going to +5 Tues/Wed and +7 Thurs with the usual
west winds (a chinook) being the cause of it all. -9 for Saturday...So
we'll see what's left. 4 cm new snow this afternoon.

IMO, no. I think it fell over because the Council felled the tree next
to it, combined with the weight of wet slushy ivy growing on it.

The snow wasn't a dusting, it was a few inches of wet snow that melted
as fast as it fell - and then turned to rain. Thirty miles further
north where the ground was hard frozen they had a whole day's snow and
sunshine today. sigh

I've seen what a foehn can do to snow in the Alps. Not pretty!

Wow! I had no idea you could get that cold down there. How is the
insulation in your house?

Here in Seattle we are under the edge of a huge high pressure dome
over the northeast Pacific. Intense inversion, temps bouncing a few
degrees either side of freezing each day and night, but a mile
straight up it's in the mid to upper 60s. Think I'm gonna need a
taller ladder...

Insulation sucks. The House is build of Burnt Adobe, which provides an R
value of maybe 4. Add to that the fact our primary Heat (and all Cooling) is
from Heatpumps. A great invention and generally an economical provider of
indoor comfort, but not so good at providing a temp delta of 40 degrees F.
So we bundle up and leave the outdoor faucets slowly dripping so they
don't freeze.

Or a REALLY long Rope, Lawn Chair and lots of Helium Balloons. Heck I'm
sure the Folks at Sea-Tac wouldn't mind it all ! ;-)
