Default Definition of "super" typhoon

There was a lot of talk earlier this week about a "super" typhoon in the
western Pacific, which at the time was even stronger than Isabel. Is there
an official threshold at which a typhoon becomes "super"? In the
Atlantic/Caribbean/Gulf, a hurricane is considered "major" when it reaches
Cat. 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Is this also the "super typhoon" point?
In any case, why not use the S-S scale on Pacific typhoons and all other
tropical cyclones? It's a totally objective standard which can be applied
anywhere.
