What is usually the hottest hour of the day?

I assume that the noon day sun is the brightest, but I wonder if there
might be some sort of accumulation of heat going on which will push
the hottest hour back from noon.

All things considered, my experience in the Pacific Northwest is for the
hottest part of the day to usually be a couple hours before sunset. The
sun is still pretty bright and unfiltered for several hours past local
noon.
