The Brits are bitching
I am in Quebec, and we have been down to -55 a few nights this last month.
The temp is supposed to be going up to the -20's this week, and on the radio and TV they are calling this a heatwave! It has been so cold here, that I am getting sick of it. The locks on the cars tend to get stiff and just wanting to do some activity is hard to cope with. -- Greetings, Jerry Greenberg GLG Technologies GLG ========================================= WebPage http://www.zoom-one.com Electronics http://www.zoom-one.com/electron.htm ========================================= "Scum Toes" wrote in message ... Looks like our friends across the Atlantic are complaining about freezing temperatures and a little light snow. I believe it's supposed to be 4 celcius (37) tomorrow with a few snow showers. I would love to see the average Englishman try to survive winter in northern Minnesota. Where temperatures often dip to -40 and snow can pile up by the foot. |

More 'n likely he'd end up on some country gent's mantle to prove he bagged that strange critter. Eh? Ya' think? |

It is certainly capable of being very cold, as you mentioned. Perhaps possibly this is a cold winter for much of southern Canada. I remember what -59 felt like. Several years ago I was on a snowmobile trip in northern Minnesota and the temperature reached -59 at Tower. I also remember what a windchill of -110 feels like. I don't feel bad at all for the Brits, I hope they have a harsh winter. -- Greetings, Jerry Greenberg GLG Technologies GLG ========================================= WebPage http://www.zoom-one.com Electronics http://www.zoom-one.com/electron.htm ========================================= "Scum Toes" wrote in message ... -40 C in England? That would be an all out disaster (and also in The
Netherlands, where I live.). Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota all have all time lows below -50 C. In Europe this is only possible in Northern Scandinavia and NW Russia. I would like "a nice pile of snow" in front of my house, thick enough to enable me to go to my work (at Shell in Amsterdam) on langlauf ski's. Last time such a thing happened was on January 2nd 1979. After 1987 the temperature in The Netherlands made a 1 C jump upwards, so I think I can forget about that one. Mazzel & broge / kind regards, Evert Wesker Amsterdam, The Netherlands http://come.to/wesker (redirect URL, no adv's), or http://www.euronet.nl/users/e_wesker/ PS: My "out in the open all time low" is -38 C with a 15 - 20 km/h breeze (so windchill some -50 C). That was on Nussuaq Peninsula on Greenland during a solo langlauf tour in March-April 1996. Then I slept in a tent. ----------------------- On Mon, 26 Jan 2004 22:40:38 -0600, "Scum Toes" wrote: Looks like our friends across the Atlantic are complaining about freezing temperatures and a little light snow. That's really rough .. this January in San Jose Ca, we had one 32 degree (F)
low and one day with 70 degree max. It's no wonder there are so many people from Michigan and Minnesota that live in California. "Scum Toes" wrote in message ... We've had a range of about 20°F to 55°F this month, ~5 inches of rain, and 5 inches of snow on the 6th - followed by only the second ice storm I've seen in my 40 years here. Just so you know, I spent 6 weeks in England several years ago and even attended a *football* game and came away unscathed. Somehow the Brits don't strike me as threatening or dangerous! Heh heh Most of them are very kind hearted people, present company excluded of coarse. |

Bob ^,,^ It seems to me that Seattle would be a miserable place to live during the winter. I would rather live someplace where there is some snowfall. Although I could live without the below zero weather. Warm climtates are for the elderly. Many folks here spend a lot of time complaining about the weather - most of them the CA transplants... I don't mind, though - I'm not one for warm and muggy weather. Our winters are just fine - maybe a little more snow would be nice, but only for looking at - Seattle drivers who normally can't even handle dry weather panic at the mere forcast of a dusting of snow... =) Bob ^,,^ |
