![]() Who needs clear dry days with "rainy" ones like this. The continued incapacity of this winter sky to yield anything more than mist or sprinkle is bizarre and certainly unprecedented in recorded history. In all probability, global ocean warming is causing this phenomena as well as higher temperatures. Now if it could just warm up that "you know where". -- a Drought-ridden Ex-Eugenian among Salemites |

Except, of course, for all of the other times it's happened. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I've checked the records at the state library here and since the 1880's there has never been a period with as many mild and dry winters as there has been in the last 10 years. There also has never been so many consecutive months of below-average precipitation as in the last 5 years. The number of 80 and 90+ temps.and drought summers are on the increase as well. Even if this is a relatively short cycle on a geological time scale,it could still be centuries long. You're in denial friend;global warming is a reality. |

You're in denial friend;global warming is a reality. No, you're in denial about the reality of the record. The record for Oregon is around 125 years. Period. |

It would be stupid to expect no cycles at all. The difference is that some people want to use this fact to micromanage people and engage in more social engineering. People can't even begin to influence these cycles as much as the micromanagers want to believe. And if the latter really cared, they wouldn't support a treaty (Kyoto) that permitted China and the all of the third world to burn coal. Bob T |

It's definately going to be a brutally dry summer. -c |

You have not lived in Oregon very long ![]() Well, we don't very often see our ski resorts closed down in the middle of February for lack of snow. It's definately going to be a brutally dry summer. Or a cool wet one, or ... When we don't have winter, we have uninhabitably hot, dry summers. We didn't have winter at the beginning of 1977, 1997, 2000 or 2002, and each of those summers melted my shoes to manhole covers. 1997 was a *really* bad summer, I ended up so tanned and sunburned I had to get a new driver's license because everybody thought I had stolen some Mexican immigrant's license from the photo and was peeling until Thanksgiving. This year will probably be bad, as we're still waiting for winter (and no, that 40 hours of ice we had counts as fall weather, not winter). -- Paul Johnson http://ursine.ca/~baloo/ |
