Reports: State of Emergency issued in New York after severe storms
batter northeastern US

Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes
are threatening residents from the central Appalachians to the Atlantic
Coast into early Tuesday night.

Frequent lightning strikes, blinding downpours and isolated flash
flooding are also likely. Expect sporadic power outages and downed trees
with these storms.

The area at greatest risk for an isolated tornado extends from
northeastern Pennsylvania to western Massachusetts and central Connecticut.

Major cities that are projected to be impacted include Philadelphia; New
York City; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore; Boston; Wilmington, Delaware;
Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Hartford, Connecticut.
