Mowing records reaval global warming

A former COCKERMOUTH man's record of his lawn mowing for the last 20
years have been included in a major climate change study.

David Grisenthwhaite[CORR], who now lives in Kirkcaldy, Fife in
Scotland, has been keeping note of every time he cuts the grass since
1984.

Now the Royal Meteorological Society have included the 77-year-old's
data in a paper on global warming.

His records reveal that the grass growing season has increased by a
month.

Grandfather David, a retired paper-maker, moved to Scotland from
Cockermouth in 1960. He says he kept the records "for the fun of
it."

As well as this he also keeps a record of how much garden waste he
shreds and has memorised bus timetables for Cumbria from 1920 to the
present day.

Explaining why he decided to keep the records he said: "It all
started in 1984 when the Woodland Trust were looking for people to take
part in a little ecological study. Afterwards I just kept on going.

"I would make a note of when I'd cut the lawn and, of course when you
do it once, you have to do it again.

"Once the Royal Meteorological Society got wind of it, it wanted the
data for its study."

Clearly the imaginary global warming signal is just an artifact of the
suburban mower island effect, whereby general increase in global wealth due
to unbridled capitalism has resulted in people being fussier about their
lawns, thereby mowing more often and earlier in the year. Satellite
readings of lawn clipping piles has shown the actual trend of cuttings is
slightly downward.

And here all I was thinking is that it was Lamarckism in operation.
The grass developed a need created by the 'mowing' environment to have
a longer growing period to help combat the mower -- it became stronger
at growing for being chopped back so much. And this characteristic
would be passed on to the grass' offspring. ;)

But with that lads name, I suspect it was (dare I say it?) "tongue in
cheek."
