The festering mass already bigger than WILMA was when it became a
hurricane has been showing an eye-spot on the satellite pictures for
several hours. The National Hurricane Center has recognized this and
designated it Tropical Depression #25. Their first advisory predicts
that it will become RECORD BREAKING Tropical Storm ALPHA later today.
This storm has been expected by weather nerds over several days time.
It is leewards of Wilma, giving it some protection temporarily from
wind shear in the region, but it has been catching some turbulence
from Wima's backwash.

If it gets to Tropical Storm named status it will make this year the
highest in recorded history for cyclones in the Atlantic Basin. If it
gets to Hurricane category 1 it will BREAK THE RECORD for hurricanes
in one season in the basin.

FIVE MORE WEEKS of Hurricane Season.

Enjoy Your GLOBAL WARMING. You bought it. You paid for it. Now you eat
it.

Looks like global cooling in the west Pacific - quick count shows 21
tropical systems there so far this year; last year at this time there
had been 28.

Out of curiosity, what is the average number of storms in the west
Pacific over say the last 10-20 years?

If I'm reading the climatology at Unisys
(http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/...fic/tracks.bwp) right, the
annual totals for tropical systems in the west Pacific have been
