I was thinking about going on a ski trip August 06. Have heard of a drought
now on the south island specifically. Looked through two pages of google and got US predictions but nothing for rest of world. Anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you. |

I doubt if you'll find anything useful as far as outlooks for skiing that far ahead. If an El Nino or La Nina kick in by next summer that could have an effect, but that is difficult to forecast now. Usually by May or early June we would have a reasonable indication of that for the upcoming summer. The Aussies might have some climate outlook for next summer in that region, but unless they've come up with something I have not heard of, I doubt if it will tell you want you want to know. "New Zealand weather forecast" in google will turn up some links for short range forecasts. Cheers, Russell |

Our weather here is fairly weird at the moment.
Very dry. Power cuts may be the outcome as well as widespread drought. However it could go the other way by winter next year. There was ample snow for skiiing last winter round the southern lakes. In case you're not confused, you can always pick up a newspaper -
Here's the first and last sentence of an article from the Press site: "It's hot,dry and there's no relief on horizon...Though drier conditions than normal were expected through the rest of December, normal rainfall was likely over the entire three-month summer period..." |
