Default Spectacular cloud formation spotted. What are these??? (0/1)

These photos were taken from route 30 near York, PA on Dec. 2 at
about 4:25 PM. I have never seen anything like it. Can anyone
identify and explain how the "waves" form??
This is my first attempt at attaching photos to a newsgroup posting.
Hope it works well. Any suggestions for improvement are appreciated.

These photos were taken from a moving car. No place safe to stop.
By the time we did stop, about 2 min. later, the waves had all but
disappeared. I have a photo of that too if anyone is interested.
Also can change the size and resolution if that would help.

Also, are there better places to post these pictures??

Sorry, as you can see by my posting above the pictures never showed
up. I have no idea why. This is my first attempt at posting photos
to a newsgroup and I probably did something wrong.
Anyway, I will try to email you copies right now.
Sure hope THIS works!

Billow clouds formed by Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities in a stratified
shear layer.

Dave,
Thanks for the quick reply. I checked out your link and found the
clould picture (I like mine better!).
Are these things rare?
I have some earth science background and taught junior high science
for 32 yrs. Never saw this before.
Always nice to have expert help.
Thanks again.
Bob

Your pictures showed up on my server. If you didn't get them, then
your news service does not accept binary attachments in a non-binary
group. (one that does not have binary in the name)

some services don't accept binaries for upload, some don't accept them
from other services for download, some let everything through.

Neat clouds by the way.
