Let's start a seperate thread, a counterfactual, a "what if". For you
AGW'er cultists, let's STIPULATE (means 'agree to' or 'pretend to agree to') that there IS GLOBAL WARMING as outlined by the Arrhenius/IPCC report, but that as an ACADEMIC EXERCISE in a parallel universe like earth where there was NO INCREASE in MAN-MADE CO2, suppose that since 1980 a temperature spike of 0.2-0.3C has occurred since 1981 *REF1 What are some possible causes OUTSIDE OF MAN-MADE CO2? (remember, in our counterfactual there is no man-made CO2 increase). Try and cite web links where possible. Some reasons: (refer to REF1) 1. Increased El Nino--release CO2, and also causes, due to temperature gradients in the oceans, weather to change and affects worldwide temperatures. 2. Increased volcanic activity (REF1) 3. Increased boundary layer effects in troposphere boundary layer (which gives a false positive in temperatures) 4. UHI (Urban Heat Island) 5. Increased solar output since we are coming out of a solar minimum (recall the IPCC says this is up to 30% of the cause of global warming) These are five that I can think of off the top of my head. Any others? Food for thought: if just these five can produce 0.2/5 = 0.04C = 0.072F = 7.2 HUNDREDTHS of a degree Farenheit change, then these five factors have explained the paltry increase in temperatures since 1981 that are the basis for the current Global Warming hysteria. RL *REF1- http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/globalwarming.html - Yes. Global surface temperatures have increased about 0.6°C (plus or minus 0.2°C) since the late-19th century, and about 0.4°F (0.2 to 0.3°C) over the past 25 years (the period with the most credible data). |

ENSO is a more general term than El Nino, and note this link on the
Southern Oscillation, which is a non-linear ocean pattern. Could it be that ENSO / SO is the 'cause' of the paltry increase of 0.2C since 1981 that is the basis for the current AGW hysteria? Yes, yes it could. Note the below keyword: *UNCLEAR*. This argues for further research, not knee-jerk "act now" hysteria. RL from *REF1 Is the atmospheric/oceanic circulation changing? A rather abrupt change in the El Niño - Southern Oscillation behavior occurred around 1976/77 and the new regime has persisted. There have been relatively more frequent and presistent El Niño episodes rather than the cool La Niñas. This behavior is highly unusual in the last 120 years (the period of instrumental record). Changes in precipitation over the tropical Pacific are related to this change in the El Niño - Southern Oscillation, which has also affected the pattern and magnitude of surface temperatures. However, it is unclear as to whether this apparent change in the ENSO cycle is caused by global warming. |

No stipulation needed, all your posts are counterfactual, Ray.
You pretend to have had the Academic exercise that led to an education, but we all know that's counterfactual too. What hell is the "Arrhenius/IPCC report?" It has got to be another psychedelic fantasy of yours Ray, because Arrhenius died decades before the IPCC was founded. Also, Earth is not a universe, it is a planet. Is it that your crazy theories of global warming do not even begin to apply to the real world, so you have to make up your own fantasy universe where whatever you say is true? Do you have an invisible friend who lives in Ray Lopez Land too? Is she the only girl who really likes you and believes in you, unlike all the real people from the outside. raylopez99 wrote: Let's start a seperate thread, a counterfactual, a "what if". You know, I always thought Ray lived in his own pretend universe.
Let's STIPULATE that he not post any more messages until he returns to the real universe. Jim |
