Temp rise for tomorrow

News 24 forecast gone from 3C at 5.30pm to 7C at 6.30pm for tomorrow's max
in the S.E. Don't know if this has diminished overnight/am snow risk for
this area, which was pretty low anyway.

Advance weather warning

over-safe. But what would you do?
Well we have this debate every year, but I just don't see how that warning
ties up with the current forecast on News 24 of rain, possibly sleet and 9C
for the areas...

Advance weather warning

I just can't wait to read the wording if we ever get blizzards on a bitterly
cold easterly. Scary stuff. ;-)

Winter 1947

I would like to echo what Keith has said. I must show my mum and brother
some of it (although they are not such weather fans as me) as my brother
was born on March 12th 1947. She says the pregnancy...

14 Low Pressures

Thanks Jon - a bit like artistic license then.

P.S. - must be of some significance as someone on another forum has
independently just noticed exactly the same on the same chart on the same
day....

Must be a new December weather record

OK, not a standard measure I know, but how about a new index - sunshine in
hours multiplied by rainfall in mm. The first 14 days of December for
Southend - 9.48 x 0.4 = 3.79
Not easy to check the...

14 Low Pressures

Out of interest, I noticed there are 14 separate centres of LP on the UKMO
12z fax chart for this Sunday 19th Dec.
Is that unusual or haven't I counted before?
Also, is it of any particular...

1962/63 Winter charts

I posted about a week ago that the Azores High looked strong and was heading
our way. I thought this would be a bad thing for cold weather and others
seemed to pick up on this. However, having looked...

John, while there is something in what you say, if you look at this thread
the only contributors supporting this view are relatively new. There may be

Drought over in SE?

Drove back from Dartford to Essex at about 23.00 last night and had the
wipers on intermittent due to the persistent fine drizzle that was falling.
This rarely seems to be picked up by the...

The strengths of this Group.

As a member of this group for the last three years or more I would like to
encapsulate what I believe make it so good.
(In no particular order)

1. Its diversity of members
2. Its tolerance...

A more descriptive approach

Mike, I think professional meteorologists will prefer one format and others
maybe a more descriptive approach. I certainly would read and appreciate all
of what Ian just said.

Getting Colder

.... and 3C max tomorrow forecast for the S.E. Well the models didn't predict
that a week ago, or, in fact yesterday, even. So, 13 days time - I don't
think so!

Routine, semi-coded observations in the newsgroup

I think I agree with Phil that [WR]'s should have their own thread - then
you can ignore areas or subjects you're not interested in. I see no problem
with using official codings but at the same time...

Nowhere to hide

Azores High

Maybe I'm just a natural pessimist but for any of the charts I look at for
the next week or so the most consistent feature seems to be the Azores High.
This seems quite large, quite strong at 1032mb...

Query - Photo books of 1962/3

I've enjoyed looking at these photos, as I do from time to time. As a 13
year old who was keen on photography I'm completely mystified that I didn't
take more photos. I suppose I was too busy...

Next week's weather summary beginning 12/12/04

Well having actually seen the sun for the first time in ages yesterday and
now looking as though we will get our second air frost tonight, a change
will be nice!

Glad to see the forecast continuing...

Snow ramping, not by me though

Trouble is, 1963 was just so good down in these parts. When you're 13 and
you jump into a drift that covers your head you tend to remember it!
