For those interested, like me, snow has covered many places in the French
Alps over the past two days. This is the first lying snow down to valley level this season in Tignes, which lies at 2100m asl, in the Haute Tarentaise - http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z5DD12AEB A similar shot was taken yesterday and a thaw set in about midday. I follow this webcam daily and the first week of October always seems to produce the first snowfalls. Joe |

Joe Sorry for the follow-on post, but this webcam from Val d'Isère, which lies 250m lower at 1850m asl, shows the snowline very well indeed. I'd hazard a guess that 2000m seems a good estimate for the snowline - http://www.valdisere.com/images05/valdisere2.jpg Val d'Isère is situated in the valley next to Tignes, in between lies a mountain.
