This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the
privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may
unfold next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility whatsoever
for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the spirit of
freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy and wish to
share freely with others.

Summary valid for Sunday 16/10/05 to Saturday 21/10/05
TOI (time of issue) Thursday 13/10/05 2100 UK local time

This summary is based on a quick appraisal of the GFS, JMA, ECMWF, UKMO, FAX,
and ENS (NCEP ensemble) labelled charts available from the superb
http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten

Moderate to high confidence for a settled start to the weather next week with
rain edging into the west later. Confidence on details and timings low.

On Sunday an anticyclone will be established over Scandinavia with a low out in
mid-Atlantic. This means a rather cloudy east to south-east airstream will cover
Britain. Generally dry with moderate to fresh east or southeasterly winds,
perhaps strong at times over high ground. Temperatures slightly above normal
with frost and fog unlikely. Some sunny intervals, especially in the northwest.

On Monday and Tuesday there is likely to be little change but perhaps with the
winds strengthening on Tuesday as low pressure and Atlantic fronts edge in. The
east to southeasterly wind may possibly touch gale force over high ground and in
coastal areas in the south and west. Some sunshine but still a lot of cloud
likely with temperatures above normal. Perhaps some rain into western areas by
the end of Tuesday.

On Wednesday, it looks like rain may spread into western and some southern areas
whilst the rest of the country remains dry and windy. Winds will ease as the
rain arrives in the west. Temperatures above normal with frost unlikely.

The end of the week looks like turning changeable with spells of rain spreading
into western and some southern areas. Eastern parts of England and Scotland
could well stay dry throughout with still a moderate to fresh east or southeast
wind. Variable winds in the west and temperatures staying above normal in most
places. Confidence low on details.

Very low confidence in the trend for the following week. But it looks like
turning unsettled everywhere with rain at times and later possibly turning
colder in Scotland with perhaps some snow over the high ground.

Will.
