Default What rain ?

Yesterday there was all this fuss about heavy rain and warnings for the
SW, yet looking at the radar there doesn't seem to be much showing up at
all.

The rain band has almost completely fragmented. Also the Meto radar is
screwed, some images show no rain at all -

I do not think the radar images are updating correctly. The rain in Wales
and Scotland has now disappeared on the met office radar page.

It is still dry here but very overcast.

You're probably right, but there also seems to be a problem with the
radar at the moment - look at the sequence on the MO site from 11.30
onwards. The rain disappears and then appears again.

Tell me about it !

Actually had a good day for a walk. Strong force 6 at 450m asl with continuous
moderate drizzle this afternoon.

In other words - a bonny day :-)

Continuous moderate horizontal drizzle now at home (1500 GMT).

Will.

Yes, I'd noticed. There may be a fault on the radar, but the fact is there
is very little rain

I had intended to take my daughter to Eden today, but with a weather warning
showing a 70% chance of disruption in Cornwall from this morning, I decided
to put it off. After all if there was a 70% chance of disruption & flooding,
the chance of getting very wet must be very high indeed. Would I even
survive crossing Goss Moor? Maybe I should take the surf ski & wetsuit just
in case.

Well, so far we seem to have survived. Total rainfall here so far today (to
15:15) 0.4mm, after a reasonably bright morning it's now dull & drizzly. If
it gets much heavier we might get some puddles.

I see the weather warning still exists, they've just delayed it all a few
hours so it coincides with the firework displays.

I think it is a Met Office experiment. It's called stealth rain and
falls in such a way as to be invisible to radar. :-)

I have had 11mm in the last 4 hours or so and my WS currently shows 5mm
per hour. On a visual check, this sounds about right.

There was never going to be any rain, see my previous post.
Most people used yesterdays forecast changing their firework display plans.
Sadly, People are clueless and suckers with our forecasts in this country.
Terrible Media Forecasts again.

It's going to be an interesting test. Can people still forecast without radar ?
I think the network of official and independent observations is going to come
into its own today.
I notice my site is receiving an unusually large amount of hits ATM. Thank
goodness I put those new batteries in :-)

Still light "horizontal drizzle" here. Rate not recording on AWS though.

Will.

Still virtually no rain, and the radar seems to be working again with still
no sign of heavy rain to the SW, so the firework displays down here might
get away with it. Total rainfall since 09:00 now approaching 1mm.
