Default Dartmoor sledging forecasts

================================================== ==================
This posting expresses the personal view and opinions of the author.
Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do.
================================================== ==================

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am pleased to announce that with the rapid approach of winter Haytor
meteorological office will be preparing sledging forecasts for winter weekends
on Dartmoor. The forecasts will commence in the first week of December and run
through to the end of April. The forecasts will be issued along with the now
routine 2 weekly outlook issued on Thursday or Friday.

The forecasts will attempt to predict the snow line for Saturday and Sunday and
likely sledging and ice conditions. Ice scrambling over frozen Tors is an
"interesting" pursuit.

The snow line will be predicted as follows:

200m, 250m, 300m, 350m, 400m, 450m, 500m, 550m, 600m, above summits. An
indication of whether it will rise or fall during the day will also be given.

600m will effectively be High Wilhays and Yes Tor. The forecasts will be
prepared using data from Topkarten as normal. Naturally I will also be using
local knowledge and experience too.

It will be interesting to verify my own forecasts on my Sunday walks, I'm
nervous about that :-)Anyway, here's to a great sledging season !!!

Example forecasts:

Saturday xx/xx/xx Snow line 400m falling to 250m by dusk. Sledging conditions
becoming good in evening. Ice unlikely. Most snow on the North moor.
Sunday xx/xx/xx Snow line 250m rising steadily to 550m during the day. Sledging
conditions becoming slushy then non-existent below 500m.

or

Mild, wet and foggy all weekend. No snow.

Will (Chief forecaster HMO).
