chains, whereas normal cars would be stuck?

I'd assumed that 'closed' means they closed the snow gates. But they
closed the gates on the Lecht Road today, and the RAC report it as
'blocked', so I dunno...

Around here "closed" means that the boards are out and proceeding past
them may invalidate your insurance. The term blocked means that
nothing can get through, not even the snowploughs or blowers but the
road would also be closed...

River Earn, your a Highlander.
