According to news sources parts of the UK endured their worst Snow Flurries
for over a hundred years, and in some places they lasted as long as two
minutes. UKMO at the behest of the government have posted new warnings as
spokesperson said.

"Even though the flurries have now stopped there could also be category 4
wetness rain, this level of wetness can be extremely dangerous in the wrong
hands !"

At Herne Bay in Kent its reported that a party of school children were
trapped by a snow flake for more than a minute when it landed in front of
their coach. The driver
a Mr Louis Lear said they were the most dangerous conditions he'd ever
experienced in over 300 years.

Further news . A man in Devon was arrested and sectioned last night after
the mysterious disappearance of 49 trees. A forestry spokesman said it was
the worse case of tree theft in the last 2000 years.

Meanwhile two women in Preston want to sue the Mett Office for not warning
of the recent severe weather which unfortunately made their hair
unmanageable for the weekend. A specialist hairdresser said " This is the
worst case of damp weather causing unmanageable hair over the whole country
for more than 8 million years."

We will be back after the break with the tragic story of the boy who got
sleet in his eye.

Don't they have sleety eyes in China?

:)

I must agree everything has been vastly overhyped about this spell, I can
only assume they're covering their backs in case someone reads your post and
tries to sue someone!

I'm not sure why people are sneering at the forecasts over this.
From what I can see there was no hype at all. The snow fell in
pretty much exactly the places it was forecast. That is the northern
half of Scotland, much of Wales and into the West Country.
Indeed, conditions in parts of Cornwall were worse than forecast.
Just ask those trapped on Bodmin Moor!

Me on the TWO forums !!!!!.

I was banned but in all fairness to TWO they recently accepted my membership
again. Trouble is if I were to go back there I'm wondering how long I'd
last.
No Danny if you want to post that there go ahead, infact I'd be quite
flattered.

And of course you will get the one rogue snow shower you get later in the
winter and ramp on about it and how it was a better spell than this one.
Just because it affect you.

I think well predicted and warned by the Met Office. I believe MetCheck and
TWO also did a good job in making sure those who needed to be warned were
kept upto date with the situation.

Except for when there was.

The snow fell in
pretty much exactly the places it was forecast.

Except for where it didn't.

That is the northern
half of Scotland, much of Wales and into the West Country.

Immediately before the event, as I have already mentioned, the warning
gave a 70% chance of disruption from heavy snow here, while the forecast
for the area showed no snow at all. The forecast was correct (give or
take a dozen flakes).

In all cases of severe weather warnings issued this year for this
location, the event has not occurred.

Indeed, conditions in parts of Cornwall were worse than forecast.
Just ask those trapped on Bodmin Moor!

An inaccurate forecast there then.

Generally, I have no complaint against the weather forecasts, possibly
because I do not expect great accuracy.

The severe weather warnings seem, to me, to be reminiscent of a story
about a boy and a wolf. What may be of concern is that by the time some
severe weather actually happens, people will have long since decided to
ignore the warnings.

I was once 'trapped' on the A10 in Cambridgeshire from 1500 to 2300
because of 'severe weather' - rather like the Bodmin incident perhaps.
There had been no severe weather then - just half an inch of snow. The
cause of the incident was incompetent drivers, and incompetent council
officials, not the weather.

While I seldom agree with Lawrence, he has hit the right note this time.

Gianna if you looked at the Radar picture there was some pretty nast echos
just in the North sea. It would not have taken much of a wind shift to have
driven them right in along the eastern side of England including SE.

I thought a high risk needed to be included a few days ahead. I think the
shorter range did reduce the warning for the East and SE of England though
because of the closness of the showers to your east they could not do so too
much.

:)))

And in Cornwall motorists blamed the Met Office for not warning them
that undue speeding on roads covered by a half inch of snow could
cause skidding and consequent traffic queues.
