Parts of Crete saw their December maximum temperature records smashed on
Friday, when influx of warm air from the south, coupled with a local Foehn effect, resulted in temperature readings up to +29.4C outside the town of Chania. Further east, Irakleio experienced an extremely mild night with temperatures no lower than +21.2C! On the other hand, the northwest of the country was reporting rather mild -but not so unseasonal- maxima of around +14C. Yannis, SE Athens +14.3C (mild), RH 66%, SLP 1015.8 hPa |

Perhaps this is a sign that the pattern of the last few years has
indeed changed - record warmth instead of snow in Athens as of the last couple of years! Scott, we did have a snow day in Athens (Nov 21st), while there have already been snowfalls in all mountains around Greece, especially in the northwest. It is not very common to have snowfalls in Athens in November, though the average figure has rised during the last decade or so. The last years have given new temperature records for both temperature minima and temperature maxima. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that patterns have changed.
